A&W is the first restaurant chain in North America to ban plastic straws, in favour of 100% compostable and marine-degradable paper straws. It’s a change that will help keep about 82 million single-use plastic straws from landfills each year and protect ocean and freshwater life.
To announce the change, we worked with TYGH and repurposed 140,000 of A&W’s last plastic straws into a 35-foot-long positive message. Inspiring people in front of one of the busiest transportation hubs in the country: downtown Toronto’s Union Station.
The larger-than-life installation even made front page headlines on Adweek, and was championed on social by members of the eco-community.
