Spotlight Meet Bethany Brown

This month’s spotlight artist is Bethany Brown, who together with Alex Joy created the amazing music in our Science World Ice Creamy Goodness spot. The name of the track is Sexy Pie RMX, which is appropriate, because those grannies in the commercial are crazy hot.

We recently interviewed Bethany about the success of the spot and her future plans in the music business.

Rethink: What’s your musical background?

Bethany: I started studying classical music when I was three and have been a professional musician since I was nine. I play a wide range of instruments, including violin, viola, cello, guitar, bass, piano and synth.

A few years ago, I moved to Tokyo and rocked out there with a band that played everything from club thumpy cuts, like Sexy Pie, to more loungy, trippy cuts. We recorded Sexy Pie in our studio in Bali, released it, then had it remixed by Yuto Nagayama in Tokyo.

Rethink: How did your music end up on Ice Creamy Goodness?

Bethany: I worked at Wave Productions for a stint. The opportunity just came up because that’s where Rethink was doing the sound for the Science World spot.

Rethink: Has the success of the spot had an impact on you?

Bethany: We’ve had to set up a MySpace page devoted to the track with a full cut available. We were also heavily encouraged to release it on iTunes, where it’s been selling with increased success. Right now it’s also being spun in Tokyo, Sao Paulo, Van City and Bali. Honestly, we’ve had worldwide interest and response.

Rethink: What are you working on now?

Bethany: I’m currently working on an EP and an album, as I was approached with the potential of a contract from a major record label. You can hear our demos here.

Rethink: Would you consider working on more commercials?

Bethany: I would absolutely love to create music for other spots. I recently did an indie cut for the current Philly Cream Cheese Spread A Little campaign. It’s also been getting a lot of attention.
